Thesis and Work and the International conference.

Finally, I KNOW that I will officially graduate this October 2016. I got the signatures from my panel already. Minor revisions but it is already approved!!

I can also now focus more on building a bigger team for my work. I really love being a leader. I really enjoy balancing the chemistry, the culture, the personalities, the strengths and weaknesses. That's what's really I love best in being a leader. And it is true that being a leader will be so easy if you have the right people on your team!

And then of course I can now focus more on the International Conference that my professional organization has been preparing for more than a year now. This is another accomplishment for me because all (but one) of the major partners of the conference is because of my networking skills. I am also going to take this opportunity to present my paper! Well, at least only a part of it because my thesis is actually compose of three studies. I can present the quantitative phase in this conference =)

My team on Online and Computerized Assessments will also be presenting. I will also be presenting, I think I should be preparing for my presentation soon. haha.

Oh goodie such a great year this year yes it was. Thank you Lord!

E-learning Professional Track

My blog posts in 2013 & 2014 says that I found my calling in the Academic Career path, but for the past years during the course of my thesis I sort of gave up (or rather changed the course) on my academic career path. I realized that it really wasn't what I was called for. I like research, but its not something I would want to make a living for the rest of my life, I figured.

What is that one thing that I was recognized for when I was but a child?

What kind of recognition did I get when I graduated elementary?

What was that one behavior did my mom scold me at when I was doing my homework?

What subjects in highschool and college did I most find exciting?

Which courses in college and gradschool did I believe I was so so so great at?

Educational Technology.

My skills in computer and how I apply it in my life has always been a part of me. Whether my parents approved or not I always used computer to help my life become more convenient.

Need to find the meaning of words? I don't want to open a dictionary, we have encarta software.

I still like research but it would only be a portion of my career growth, we need research everywhere anyway.

Given the trends in technology I found myself in the e-learning industry and I know that my career was meant to be an e-learning professional.

I have given up on the academic career long before I finished my masters. Graduate school really does test your patience. We don't all have to be Phd's or academics. There are a lot of jobs that do not exist yet. There are too many academics already.

Anyway I still have a lot of things to do in revising my thesis paper... I just had to put it on record that my career track is no longer to be an academic doing research all her life... I would do research, but that's not the only thing I will be doing :)

Philippine eLearning Society (PeLS) International Congress on eLearning (ICE) 2015

I'm almost done with my master's degree (hopefully by the end of 2015) and I have to start looking for employment that is tailored to what I am passionate about.

E-learning. Instructional Design. Educational Technology.

The people I have been in contact and communication with and who are in the same field are mostly outside of the Philippines.

For a while, I figured, how come I'm not building contacts to where I actually live?

I don't want to elaborate on what was stopping me, but I decided to google "E-learning Philippines" and discovered this.

Right now what's stopping me is, do I pay? or do I not. Last night, I was only willing to attend the pre-conference workshop. But today I got an e-mail encouraging me to attend the whole congress.

A part of me thinks, are they sales talking me? or maybe it is a blessing in disguise.

I came across a paper about e-learning in the Philippines published in 2007 that says:

"E-learning can be regarded as a relatively new concept in the Philippines and is still in its embryonic stage. Although open and distance learning has been documented to be introduced in the Philippines way back in 1952 through the Farmers’ School-on-the-Air program over a one kilowatt radio station in the province of Iloilo, the development of distance education, much so of the e-learning environment lags far behind more industrialized countries due to a relatively lack of infrastructure, investment, and a pedagogy applicable to many Filipinos."

Actually, I thought it was a recent paper.

Not much have changed... Although there has been, I guess, improvements? I probably don't have the right to say since I haven't explored or read much about this in the Philippines especially that my MOOC thesis got disapproved I went off tangent. Thanks for killing my passion.

But now that I'm on a full time student status again and I am almost done with graduate school, I know I have to start building contacts for me to find a job that supports e-learning or at the least allow me to use the skills that I have worked hard for years (i.e GRAD SCHOOL).

Going back to the workshop/congress, YEY or NAY?
Will it be worth my money? I don't have an institution to "refund" my registration.

I guess what I'm hesitant about is that I have never paid for a workshop/congress!
For some reason, I either just get lucky that I am part of the team or the workshop is free.

I guess it's about time I start doing different.
It's Php6,000.00 for early bird registration and the congress is on September.
It also means classes have started during that time (thesis ehem).

I should just probably go for it. Hopefully it'll shed light for me to know the opportunities that e-learning industry has in the Philippines.
